The Letter

Act One, Scene One
A metal box
A raised, red flag
A sidewalk
Midday, sunny
She opens the lid
A pause
A glance
A wonder
A thrill
An envelope
Another pause
Another wonder
Another thrill
She runs her fingers around the edge
And opens
This thing
So foreign
A memory
A breath
A palpitation
The contents
Hand written
Such beauty
In
The written words
My dearest friend
It begins
To dearest friends
It returns
A lost art
So simple
Act Two, Scene Two
The Reply
