Impasse

The knocker knocked,
Thinking he would get in.
But only if
I give in.
"Why?"
I ask.
"Just so you know,"
he replied
with a tender voice.
But what he
did not realize
Was that another
knocker
was knocking from within,
Thinking
he would get out.

The Letter

Act One, Scene One
A metal box
A raised, red flag
A sidewalk
Midday, sunny
She opens the lid
A pause
A glance
A wonder
A thrill
An envelope
Another pause
Another wonder
Another thrill
She runs her fingers around the edge
And opens
This thing
So foreign
A memory
A breath
A palpitation
The contents
Hand written
Such beauty
In
The written words
My dearest friend
It begins
To dearest friends
It returns
A lost art
So simple
Act Two, Scene Two
The Reply

The Other Half

Let me walk a mile
In your shoes
My friend.
I want to feel the weight of
Your world
On
My shoulders.
I want to hear the
whispers
behind my back
And pretend
it is only the
Wind.
Or
Something.
I want to show my
Adversaries
that the only face I will
Let
Them
See
Is my bold face.
I want to have to speak
Twice as loud
Stand
Twice as tall
Think
Twice as hard
To be heard
To be seen
To be
Believed.
I want to know how it is
that
I
See
You.
Not for your sake,
My friend.
But for mine.
